GAP Engineering focuses on industrial systems, providing a range of tailored, but nevertheless turnkey, installations and services.
We met Atherm in 2015. We realized we shared expertise in aluminum casting, energy management, and the intention to help industries to solve their problems. Together, we developed an electrical preheating system for vertical continuous casting machines for aluminum slabs and billets, offering decarbonization options for this industry. We particularly appreciate their dedication and constant commitment to excellence.
Vertical continuous casting is risky for both the equipment and the operators. Hands-free casting based on automated processes and hi-tech machines ensures safety by putting distance between the operator and the danger. However, thermal management is crucial to this safety effort, as the metal on the far end of the dispatcher could solidify if there is a low starting flow. Controlling preheating is thus key to efficient, safe continuous casting.
Together, GAP and Atherm offer a preheating system for the spout, reducing the risk of metal freezing by guaranteeing a homogenous temperature above 300°C throughout the system. Combined with furnace preheating pins, this system provides easy-to-set, efficient thermal conditions.
Our solution ticks all the boxes of the strictest industrial standards, requires few and affordable spare parts, while also being reliable, cost-effective, and low-maintenance.
